Distance
At a height of 15 meters on the facade of the building located at Gustav-Adolf-Straße No. 169a, a moon appears. The video recordings of the moon depict this solitary natural satellite of planet Earth from various distances. The initial recording portrays the moon from a considerable distance, where initially only a point can be discerned in the black sky. As the camera approaches the moon, the round white circle becomes increasingly distinct against the black backdrop. However, the recording does not cease at this distance; on the contrary, the camera zooms in on the moon so intensely that its surface becomes entirely pixelated, until the image, much like the initial one, fades into complete darkness once more. It is a journey from black to black, or rather, an exploration of what occurs in between – the intermediary state/METAXYUM.
The work “Distance” delves into the fundamental questions of seeing and perception: how we (the observers) perceive different images/truths through varying distances.
