Universe Light Bridge
Universe Light Bridge is an interactive installation and intervention in the universe. A bridge of light is created that connects the sun, the earth and the universe. This work is built from solar cells (solar panels) and a laser emitter. The solar panels form the body that absorbs the sunlight. A part of the absorbed energy is stored and another part is transferred to the laser mechanism, which stands on the top of the work. With the help of the laser mechanism, this energy is transformed into a beam of light. The ray of light leaves the earth and thus makes its way through the sky to the universe.
Communication bridge
The sun’s rays of light are charged by the solar cells and then sent into space with the help of the laser system. This creates a universal dialogue between a star (our sun), a planet (our earth) and the universe. This light, coming from the sun to earth and captured by human technology and then released again in the form of rays of light, builds a universal bridge. The construction of this universal bridge may be suitable to give humanity a more intense sense of belonging to the universe. There could also be a discourse and expand human perspective as people can visually observe that not only the world but also the whole universe is not only connected but also interacts with each other.
Where is NOW situated?
The work also deals with the question: Where is NOW situated? It includes several NOW moments which build this work: the moment of formation of the Light in the sun, the way of light to the Earth, the moment the sunbeam reaches the solar panel, the moment the laser beam is formed in the ULB, the moment of releasing the beam, and the way of the beam spread into space. All this NOW´s build this Light Bridge. It can be seen as an architectural “object” made of light, reduced to just “one” dimension: from the side viewers see a line beginning to infinity, from above (bird’s eye view, airplane, satellite) they would see only a lightpoint. Due to the earth‘s rotation, the ray appears as a light spiral shape in the universe.
Sustainability
Universe Light Bridge is an autonomous work that runs on its own energy. The work functions with absorbed energy, which is accumulated, transformed and released again. This means that this work, in addition to its ideal, educational and aesthetic functions, also has a practical function, such as capturing rays of light, recycling them and sending them. The solar modules are up to 95% recyclable. Despite its universal size and effect, this work occupies a minimal footprint of 66 x 66cm. This ensures a rational and efficient handling of the earth’s surface. This work is a sustainable work and stands for a sustainable approach to nature and the environment.
The relativity of size
When the Universe Light Bridge is built, it would be the largest work of art on earth. In just 24 hours, this work of art would have reached a range of 25.920.000.000 km. Universe Light Bridge is the first work of art in the universe and would have universal proportions.
